White Slippers Slowing You Down?

Toss Out what's not workingI have these pretty, adorable white slippers.

I love them! They make me feel summery and girly.

Yet, every time I wear them to go out somewhere, I’m nervous.

These slippers have terrible grip you see. In the year I’ve owned them, I’ve nearly slipped and fallen about 90% of the time. Crossing roads, at traffic signals, climbing down stairs, walking on grass, you name it.

2 weeks ago I finally fell down. Hard. Boy that hurt!

So of course I’m scared it’s going to happen again. Not to mention they spoil my gait by putting pressure on my back and hips as I concentrate on walking slowly on the balls of my feet, leaning forward ever so slightly to keep my balance in case the slip happened. Wow, can you feel the tension there?!

You’d think I would know better.

Well, I do.

But I still wear them.

Huh? WHY?

Ahhh cos’ nothing tooo bad has happened, you see.

Yet.

I always save myself in the nick of time. I tempt fate. After all it’s a small price to pay for feeling great and looking good. And they’re just so darn cute!

Hmmmmm? Did I just say that?!

Really!? :O

So I’ll wear these slippers till something BAD happens?

*Sigh* sometimes, I just learn the hard way … It got me thinking..

WHY am I clinging on to something that’s doing me no good?

(Sometimes I have to ask myself a few times before I give me an answer!)

Oooh starting to sound familiar now. It’s like … like.. that habit you’ve come to not particularly like, but you do it anyways.

It’s not doing you any favours, it could even be keeping you from getting what you want (in the case above that would be to feel carefree and pretty – ain’t nothing carefree about a girl walking on eggshells now, is there).

The kind of habit like:

  • Pulling a face as you look in the mirror while getting dressed
  • Saying you deserve more and accepting less
  • Giving up on something before you even get started
  • Feeling that no matter what you do, you just can’t lose those pounds
  • Wanting to meet a great guy, then saying no to dates
  • Saying you want to eat better as you reach for the crisps
  • Wanting to save more and splurging on a pair of shoes

I could go on. But I’ll ask you, can you identify a habit like that? One that might possibly reduce the quality of an experience?

Or one that you say you don’t like or want to change and yet, find yourself repeating day after day?

I know I’m not the only one. We keep good company ay?

Wearing my white slippers might not have had a serious consequence so far but what if I slipped and hit my head someday? Would that have been worth it?

No.

A thousand times no.

Then why keep persisting with what hurts you, doesn’t make you feel good, keeps you stuck, stops you from moving forward, brings you down and wastes your time and energy, rather than changing those thoughts, beliefs and actions?

I know all those excuses you’re going to make.

I make them too.

Question is …. watchu gonna do?

If you’ve been doing and saying the same things and getting the same results, it’s time to throw those white slipper like beliefs and words away.

But only if you’re ready to stop tripping and falling and get a grip, of course. Ha! Count ME in!

Let GO of what you know doesn’t work for you as you create the life you want.

You KNOW it, now go SHOW it.

ps: Guess what’s going to be tossed away tonight? 😉

I’m curious. Got any “white slippers” in your life you could do without? What do you want to throw out? And watchu gonna do differently? I’d LOVE to hear your thoughts! Thanks in advance for sharing!

Perfect timing for this reminder, Ms Tia – just realised this afternoon I have at least a couple pairs of white slippers lurking in my life! Time to do a declutter of the metaphorical wardrobe, methinks.

(Of course, you could always glue non-slip stuff to the soles and turn your eggshell habit into something girlie and cute and NIMBLE… heheheheh!) 😉

I JUST threw away a full deodorant container that has a broken dispenser; one that I would actually have to dig out the deodorant with my fingers to use it. ICK!

I have had it for at least a year and often grab it first, then put it back and grab the full one. Every time I silently curse it! I finally asked myself if a person who felt abundance would keep this. I immediately tossed it into the garbage. And that felt really good.

I must have hundreds of these sort of things filling my house. And they fill my head and heart with feelings of lack. I am done with those feelings of scarcity and tossing everything I come across today that is broken, not used anymore or cluttering my space.

Get ready dumpster for a heap of garbage coming your way.

PS–I’m more than a little embarrased to admit that I have been hanging onto a broken deodorant container for so long . . . but the truth will set you free. It really is a symbol of my old paradigm of saving things for when I can’t afford them. Good Grief! I can always afford deodorant.

I also just wrote out the check to Habitat for Humanity–one that I have been shuffling around for a few months, waiting for when I felt like I had a little extra money. I have extra money, especially for helping others.

Good on you Berta! Heck a little embarrassment never killed anyone 😉 Love how you saw that container as a metaphor for a money belief. Way to go! And thanks for sharing so candidly. You’re making me smile real hard.

Gotta admit, I’ve had 3 at one time too and never threw out the ones that I didn’t like. In fact I didn’t even THINK to do that till you mentioned it so thank you for reminding me to look in places I normally wldn’t for more decluttering.

    Wheeeee! 😀

Just wanted to share The Wisdom of Oneness (Rasha) message for today since it fit right in:

“You stand at the threshold of a grand adventure. The extent to which you experience the fullness of that journey is determined by the extent to which you let go of the scenarios that no longer serve you.”

Thank you for another wonderful post, Tia! Here’s to grand adventures and letting go of anything that no longer serves us . . . including those white slippers . . . 🙂
