Cut The Cr*p – Ways to Stop Making Excuses In Life.

Remember that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other. – Abraham Lincoln.

(This is a post by Diggy of FlawlessConfidence.com)

If you are like most of us, then you’re probably making excuses on a daily basis.

Excuses for what, you may ask?

Well, quite simply, excuses for everything.

Excuses for your bank account being how it is, excuses for the relationship you do or do not have, excuses for your lack of success, excuses for being out of shape and so on and so forth.

Why do you do this?

It’s just so much easier to rationalize bad situations and to make excuses for not doing something than it is to actually take action to change it. An excuse for not being confident takes you 20 seconds while becoming a more confident person might take you 4 weeks.

Just like water, you’re likely to take the path of least resistance which is the path of the least effort, which is doing nothing at all and just making up an excuse to justify why you are not doing it.

This is not your fault per se, just a general ‘flaw’ in the programming of the human mind.

So, what am I saying here?

If you want to live an average life or see your finances stay at the level they’re at and if you don’t want to achieve any of your dreams, then you should continue to put off taking action and continue making excuses about why.

However, if you want to improve your life, your finances, your relationships, your health and your happiness, you need to stop making excuses and actually take action to create the changes you want to see.

And because you’re here reading this, I KNOW you want more from your life.

How To Stop Making Excuses:

If what I’ve written makes sense to you, then you might be wondering how to stop making excuses.

It’s really simple, you just need to STOP making excuses.

Make it your task to consciously observe your thoughts for the day. Every time you catch yourself in the process of making an excuse about something, stop yourself from completing that excuse and immediately take action to change the situation.

  • If you catch yourself making an excuse why you haven’t exercised in 3 months, put on your running shoes and run for 20 minutes. Or pack your clothes and hit the gym.
  • If you’ve been planning to get another job that pays more money but have been making excuses for months why not to do it, you may not be able to find a job right now but you can certainly take action to start the process. You can buy classifieds, look at job listings online and even make phone calls for various job offerings.

I know that it’s not possible to do everything you make an excuse for right away, but you can at least make an effortUsually you can take action to start the process of change for everything that you’re currently making excuses for.

How To Take Action:

You now understand a serious cause for the consequence of your life being the way that it is, i.e. making excuses.

You also understand that you need to consciously stop yourself from making excuses and take action to start the process of change.

Now you’re at the third step of improving your life, which actually involves you taking action.

Taking action quite simply means that you physically need to do something that starts the process of change.

For example: you need to move your butt to burn calories to lose weight, or you need to pick up the telephone and dial a number to make an appointment for an interview for a new job, or you need to walk over to that girl or guy you fancy and actually say something to them so you increase your chance of getting a date with them.

Taking action is very scary when you think about it.

The more you think about it, the scarier it gets. But once you just do it, then you’ll see that it’s not so scary and you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it any sooner.

As a practical example that you can probably relate to, take the fact of standing on a diving board or cliff above water only 3m high (9ft). You can see many others jumping and diving from this depth, but when you’re up there and you look down, it looks incredibly high.

The longer you stand there and look down at the water, the higher it seems to become and the scarier it becomes to jump. And if you stare at the water long enough you’ll actually convince yourself not to do it.

But then when you just jump and hope for the best, the second you come up from the water you’ll see it wasn’t as scary as you thought it actually was and you’re much more likely to do it again and again.

This is exactly how it is with everything that you’re making an excuse for. It’s always much scarier when you think about it, and the more you think about it, the scarier it becomes.

The best way to take action is to just take action and think about it as little as possible.

The time that you need to think about taking action is when you plan what action is the smartest to take for your benefit.

What is the best strategy to follow to give you maximum results for your particular situation? Once you’ve decided this, stop thinking and just do.

Following the steps I’ve outlined for you in this article is the best way to make something of your life. You really need to cut the cr*p and stop making excuses about why your life is not the way you want it!

  • Either accept your life the way it is and don’t complain (or make excuses), or
  • Choose not to accept your life the way it is, stop making excuses and take action on a daily basis until you get the results that you want to get.

Ask any successful person who seems to have an ideal life if they achieved their success overnight and they will tell you that they had to fight, struggle and work hard for days, weeks, months, and even years before they got to where they are now.

Stop making excuses and take action to start the process of change so that you can live the life you want to be living.

I’d love to hear from you – what excuses have you been making that you’re going to stop now? Thanks for sharing!

    Absolutely Diggy!

Don’t we all make excuses sometime or the other. But what matters most is that we learn not to make them and find ways to change our ways. Change is something we should always be ready for, if it’s for the good. And also be ready to accept the change that you feel isn’t good, because there can be nothing better than acceptance. Once you have these done, I don’t think you would make any excuses.

That quote by Abe is one of my favorites. It is easy to get stuck in a rut, that after awhile becomes comfortable when it has worn you down~ but, there is always that inner voice tugging at your sleeve that says things could be better.

Yeah, it’s always a fight with yourself. The lazy part of you just tells you to sit back and give up, but the fighter in you tells you that you can do better and should not give up.

The choice is yours, which voice inside you do you choose to gain the upper hand?
